Blackjack
The objective is to build a hand closer to 21 than the dealer’s, without going over. Cards 2–9 carry their face value, 10s and face cards are worth 10, and an Ace counts as 1 or 11. The dealer draws to a fixed set of rules — the player decides: hit, stand, double down, split pairs, or surrender (where available).
House Edge and RTP in Blackjack
The house edge in blackjack ranges from roughly 0.28% to over 5%, depending entirely on the rules and how well the player plays.
Under favourable conditions — single or double deck, dealer stands on soft 17, doubling after splits allowed, 3:2 payout on a natural blackjack — the edge against a basic-strategy player runs around 0.5%. Atlantic City Blackjack Gold by Microgaming, one of the most widely distributed RNG variants, carries a published RTP of 99.65% under optimal play.
Two rules that significantly raise the house advantage: a 6:5 blackjack payout instead of 3:2 (adds roughly 1.4% to the house edge alone), and dealer hitting on soft 17 (adds about 0.2%). Insurance is a side bet with an edge of around 7% — mathematically poor for the player on every single hand regardless of the cards held.
Without using basic strategy, the effective house edge rises to 2–5%. The math doesn’t change; the player’s decisions do.

| Atlantic City Blackjack Gold | 8 decks, late surrender | 99.65% |
| Multi-Hand Blackjack | 3–5 hands simultaneously | ~99.5% |
| Infinite Blackjack (Evolution) | Unlimited seats, side bets | ~99.5% |

| Free Bet Blackjack (Evolution) | Splits and doubles at no cost | ~98.5% |

Multiplier-based live variants like Lightning Blackjack trade a slightly lower base RTP for the possibility of large multiplied payouts. The underlying deal is the same; what changes is the variance profile.

Blackjack in the Regulated Ontario Market
Ontario’s iGaming market launched on April 4, 2022 under AGCO (Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario) regulation and is operated commercially through iGaming Ontario (iGO). Private operators must hold AGCO registration and an iGO operating agreement to offer blackjack to Ontario residents. The minimum age is 19+.
All games at AGCO-licensed operators are certified by independent testing labs — eCOGRA, iTechLabs or GLI — for RNG integrity. Live tables are streamed from licensed studios.
Players outside Ontario can access blackjack through provincial Crown sites (OLG.ca for Ontario residents, PlayNow in BC, PlayAlberta, Loto-Québec) or through offshore-licensed operators holding Malta Gaming Authority or Kahnawake licences.
Suitable for players who want the lowest theoretical casino edge, are willing to learn a basic strategy chart, or prefer a game where decisions actually affect the outcome.
