Roulette
A ball is spun around a numbered wheel. Players bet on where it lands. That’s the core of it.
The betting options cover a wide range of risk levels. Inside bets — single numbers, splits between two adjacent numbers, corners covering four numbers — pay higher but win less often. Outside bets — red or black, odd or even, columns covering 12 numbers — pay lower but win close to half the time. No bet changes the house edge; the zero pocket(s) are what give the casino its margin on every wager.
House Edge by Roulette Variant
The number of zero pockets determines most of the math:
| Variant | Zeros | House edge | RTP |
| European Roulette | 1 (single zero) | 2.70% | 97.30% |
| American Roulette | 2 (0 and 00) | 5.26% | 94.74% |
| French Roulette (La Partage) | 1 | 1.35% on even-money bets | 98.65% |
| French Roulette (En Prison) | 1 | ~1.35% on even-money bets | ~98.65% |
The five-number basket bet on American Roulette (0, 00, 1, 2, 3) carries a house edge of 7.89% — higher than any standard bet on that wheel.
French Roulette’s La Partage rule returns half the even-money stake if the ball lands on zero. En Prison holds the bet for one more spin instead. Both rules halve the edge on even-money wagers. Where available, French Roulette gives the player a mathematically better deal than European on those bets.
Multiplier variants (Lightning Roulette, XXXtreme Lightning, Quantum Roulette) use the European single-zero wheel as their base, so the underlying edge is still 2.70%. The RNG multiplier system redirects potential payout toward a small number of numbers each round — variance is higher, but the average return stays at the same base level.
