Two dice are rolled. Bets are placed before and during each roll. The “shooter” begins with a come-out roll:

  • Roll a 7 or 11: Pass Line bets win immediately.
  • Roll a 2, 3, or 12 (craps): Pass Line bets lose.
  • Roll any other number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10): that number becomes the “point.”

Once a point is established, the shooter keeps rolling. If the point number appears before a 7, Pass Line bets win. If a 7 appears first, Pass Line bets lose.

The Don’t Pass bet is the inverse — it loses on a 7 or 11 on the come-out, wins on a 2 or 3, and pushes on 12. It benefits from the opposite result once a point is established.

Beyond Pass and Don’t Pass, the table offers Come/Don’t Come bets (same mechanic applied mid-roll), Place bets on specific numbers, Field bets, Hardways, and proposition bets. Most of the more exotic bets carry high house edges and are worth understanding before placing them.

House Edge by Bet Type

Bet House edge
Don’t Pass / Don’t Come 1.36%
Pass Line / Come 1.41%
Free Odds (behind Pass Line, any multiplier) 0%
Place 6 / Place 8 1.52%
Place 5 / Place 9 4.00%
Place 4 / Place 10 6.67%
Field (12 = 3:1) 2.78%
Field (12 = 2:1) 5.56%
Any Hardway (6/8) 9.09%
Any Hardway (4/10) 11.11%
Any 7 (proposition) 16.67%

The Free Odds bet is the only zero-edge wager in a standard casino. It’s placed behind a Pass or Don’t Pass bet after a point is established and pays at true mathematical odds — 2:1 on a point of 4 or 10, 3:2 on 5 or 9, 6:5 on 6 or 8. No house advantage. The catch: it can only be placed in addition to a flat bet that does carry an edge.

Pass Line + 1× odds: combined edge ~0.85%. Pass Line + 3–4–5× odds: ~0.37%. The higher the odds multiple allowed, the closer the combined house edge gets to zero.

Evolution Live Craps RTP range: 83.33% (worst proposition bets) to 99.17% (Don’t Pass with maximum odds). The 99.17% figure is the theoretical maximum using optimal bet selection with full odds. Basic Pass Line alone is ~98.59% RTP.

Craps at Canadian Online Casinos

Craps has a narrower provider field online than blackjack or roulette.

Live Craps (Evolution Gaming) — launched 2020, streamed from a 1920s-themed studio in Riga with a mechanical dice-throwing arm. Available at AGCO-licensed Ontario operators that have integrated Evolution’s full live-dealer suite, including BetMGM Ontario, FanDuel Ontario, bet365, BetRivers and others. This is the primary live craps product in the Canadian regulated market.

First Person Craps (Evolution) — an RNG version of the craps table with a “Go Live” button that connects to the live table. Available at the same operators.

RNG craps — available from Microgaming/Games Global, NetEnt, Playtech and Betsoft. These are fully functional craps simulations; they lack the social element of the live product but are playable at lower stakes and with no wait time.

OLG.ca’s live casino carries Evolution content — including Live Craps — within its 100+ live-table offering.

Craps in the Regulated Ontario Market

Live Craps availability in Ontario depends on the operator integrating Evolution’s full live-dealer suite. Not every AGCO-licensed operator carries it; check the live casino lobby before registering. RNG craps is more widely available.

The 19+ age requirement applies. No Ontario-specific restrictions on bet types.

Suitable for players who want very low theoretical edge on a straightforward set of bets (Pass/Don’t Pass + odds), enjoy a game with active participation in each roll, or are curious about a game often described as the most social in a physical casino — adapted reasonably well to the Evolution live-dealer format.
